The Northern Cape, Upington

Orange River Wine Cellars is situated in South Africa’s - and possibly the worlds - most unique wine growing region. Here, for some 300km next to the Orange River near the Northern Cape town of Upington, the river has created a green oasis. Fertile soils, fed by the life-giving waters of the river allow vineyards to flourish, bearing quality grapes ideal for the making of fine wines. The temperate climate and clean desert air ensures that the grapes obtain a fruitiness, with which smooth, aromatic and extremely drinkable wines are made.

The wines of Orange river Wine Cellars include fruity whites, such as Colombard, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc. The reds are velvety, with Shiraz, Ruby Cabernet and Cabernet Sauvignon leading the way.
Of course, no mention of Orange River Wine Cellars can be complete without mentioning the legendary fortified sweet wines: Muscadel and Jerepigo, wines that have seen the winery winning numerous awards.
Five wineries make up Orange river Wine Cellars: Keimoes, Kakamas, Grootdrink, Upington and Groblershoop, and a visit to these are a memorable experience. Almost as memorable as our wines, which are found throughout South Africa.
